Urartian Inscription of Başbulak

Başbulak (A 5-26)

The inscribed stone was found in 1888 in the walls of the ruined fortress of Başbulak, near the village of the same name (now Bulakbaşı) in the Karakoyunlu district of Iğdır province. The inscription has been lost since that time.

Transliteration:
d[hal]-di-e e-ú-[ri-e]
2  [i]-ni É ba-[du]-ú-[si-e]
3  [mmì]-nu-a-še miš-pu-u-ni-hi-ni-[še]
4  [ši]-di-iš-tú-ni É.GAL
5  [ši]-di-iš-tú-ni ba-du-ú-[si-e]
6  [te]-ru-ni mmì-nu-a-hi-ni-[li]
7  [ti-i]-ni dhal-di-ni-[ni]
8  [al]-⸢su⸣-ši-i-ni mmì-nu-a-[ni]
9  [m]⸢iš⸣-pu-ú-i-ni-[hi]
10  [MAN DAN]-NU MAN KURbi-a-na-[ú-e]
11  [a-lu-si URUṭu-uš-pa-e URU]

Translation:
(1) [For] the god [Hal]di, the (or: his) Lord, Minua, son of Išpuini, built this building [to] per[fec]tion. He also [b]uilt a fortress to perfection (and) gave it the name ‘Minuahinili’ (‘The Minuan’). (7) [Through] the [gr]eatness of the god Haldi (I am) Minua, (9) [son of] Išpuini, [str]ong [king], king of the Bia lands, [lord of Ṭušpa-City].”
