Urartian Inscriptions of Kalecik

Kalecik (A 2-1)

The two-line inscription, with identical content on each line, is carved on a cylindrical stone (a column base?). It was seen and copied by F. E. Schulz in the church of Aralesk (Lesk), now Kalecik, about 5 km north of Van, but its whereabouts are not known today. The inscription dates to the reign of Išpuini.

Kalecik (A 8-41)

The inscribed stone slab was found reused in a niche in an ancient wall that supported an Armenian chapel on a hill near Aralesk (now Kalecik), about 5 km north of the city of Van. The stone measures 20 cm in height, 30 cm in width, and 5 cm in thickness and is now in the collection of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow. Based on paleographic clues, it has been assigned to the reign of Argišti I.
