Guganis (A 8-38)
The cylindrical column base was found in the abandoned village of Guganis (now Köklü) by the Hoşap Creek, south of the city of Van, about 13 km west of Gürpınar. The top surface bears a cross and Armenian graffiti. A single-line inscription of Argišti I surrounds the stone. It is 81 cm in diameter and 40 cm in height and is in the inventory of the Van Museum.
Transliteration:
1 d[hal-di-ni-ni al-su-i-ši-ni … mar-gi-iš]-ti-ni MAN DAN-NU a-lu-si URUṭu-uš-pa-a URU
Translation:
“[Through the greatness of] the god [Haldi I am Argiš]ti, strong king, lord of Ṭušpa-City.”
